Epoxy Coating Not Holding Up on Your Floor? Try Our Urethane Floor Coatings

Posted

For many of our customers, an epoxy floor coating is perfect for their space. But for some customer, epoxy just doesn't stand up to the harsh demands of their space. If your epoxy coating isn't working for you, you might want to consider making the switch to urethane floor coatings. Urethane is tougher than epoxy, and can stand up to drops and scrapes that happen to your floor without being damaged. It is also more resistant to chemicals than epoxy. Urethane floor coatings are available in a variety of finishes, too, so you can choose the look you want for your floor.

There are some drawbacks to using urethane floor coatings, though. Urethane often requires that a respirator be worn during application, and because of the the fumes it may not be a good choice for enclosed areas. Also, the finished coating is quite thin, so it's not good at self-leveling floors that have cracks or divots. You’ll want to take these factors into consideration when choosing a floor coating.

One of the best choices for your floor is use an epoxy coating as your first coat and use a urethane floor coating as a top coat. This is especially useful if you are using an epoxy coating that includes color flakes, as the urethane will seal those flakes in and protect the flakes from pulling up. Then you get a floor that’s self-leveled, as well as totally sealed and protected.
