Do You Need to Use Moisture Mitigating Primers On Your Floor?

Posted

Not every floor requires moisture mitigating primers, but when it comes to dealing with the possibility of moisture vapor transmission it is better to be safe than sorry. Moisture in your concrete can ruin your floor coating, whether it is an epoxy or urethane floor coating. You'll end up spending way more time and money striping and refinishing your floor than you would have putting down a great, high quality primer in the first place.

You'll want to lay down your moisture mitigating primers and then allow your surface plenty of time to dry. Once it is ready, though, you can go ahead and lay down your floor coating and top coat normally. You'll have better application results, and shouldn't see any of the tell-tale signs of moisture like bubbling or rippling in your coating. Many of our primers are also suitable as a topcoat, which can save you money in the floor coating application process. Check out the specs on the primer you choose for more information about whether or not it can be used as a top coat as well.
