Bubbles Appearing in Your Concrete Floor Coatings? We Can Help You Troubleshoot

Posted

One of the common issues that occurs with concrete floor coatings are bubbles appearing in the coating. This is often because of air being trapped in the coating, either coming up through the concrete or from another other source. There are seven primary causes of these air bubble appearing in your floor coatings, each of which can be easily remedied.

Often, the issue is air escaping up through the concrete and becoming trapped in the coatings. Other reasons could be because of excessive air movement from vents, windows, or fans that are causing the coating to dry too quickly and preventing air from naturally escaping. This can also happen because of high humidity levels, and direct sun can make the coating too warm and cause it to dry too fast as well. We've also seen air bubbles in the coating caused by it being mixed improperly, such as by a high speed mixing tool that introduces too much air to the solution. You'll want to make sure you are using the recommended roller type, too, to prevent air bubbles during the application process.

In order to get air bubbles out of your concrete floor coatings, you can roughen up the coating with 60 grit screen. This will allow the air to escape and take down the texture of the bubbles. Take steps to prevent the issue from happening again before you reapply, such as applying a primer or preventing too much humidity, sunlight, or air movement to effect the coating before it dries.

Follow these tips and you'll have a gorgeous, durable concrete floor coating that will last you for years!
